More Apps on the Way!

I have 2 more little apps on the way. One is done entirely by my kid. This is a great teaching tool! You are programing in a resource constrained environment so you MUST pay attention to details such as memory management, timing, CPU utilization, etc. Just like back in the old days.

Lessons that she has learned:
  • OOP -- She already did some things in Java, but objective -C allowed her to continue and experience other ways of doing OO type things.
  • Resource management. Out Of Memory, too bad! She has learned how to manage objects and memory wisely.
  • Objective-C syntax -- no escaping this.
  • Event Loop Paradigm. Getting and handling events from user input and doing output to the system.
  • Graphics -- How to draw things and interact with graphics.
  • Various IPhone API's. Again Must do.
As she developed her app, she was able to stop and test along the way. The integration of XCode and the simulator makes for a really nice experience. Instant feedback and gratification.

Any other people using Xcode and IPod Touch/IPhones as a programming teaching tool? I would be interested in knowing.

Tìoraidh!
